LEVEL 01: Golden Era Scratches | 1 level // 8 Sessions Hip hop's "Golden Era": the period between the mid eighties and early nineties where sampling, originality, and stylistic diversity reigned supreme. In this course you'll be exploring the pivotal scratches of the Golden Era. The chirp, transform, stab, skribble, and of course the baby scratch are the main players. Our focus, however, is not simply learning these scratches individually. Instead, the key to bringing these scratches to life in your routines is through unique combos. You'll also be introduced to the basics of scratch notation and how this system can be utilized to take your scratch routines to the next level. DJs we'll be examining include Jazzy Jeff, Premier, Cash Money, Pete Rock etc... **This course assumes a basic knowledge of DJing that is equivalent at least to Off Centre's Level 1: Intro to DJing class. |

LEVEL 02: Advanced Techniques | 1 level // 8 Sessions
Scratching is often associated solely with a hip hop aesthetic. In this course we break down those genre parameters and through techniques like the crab, double click flare, tear, chrip/flare, orbit (and many more), we explore how scratching can become an intricate part of your DJ performance in various electronic music. With an intensive hands on approach we'll learn various technical aspects of each scratch, but more importantly place them in the context of set creation both from a mixing and soloing perspective. With the guidance of well experienced turntable innovators look forward to expanding your scratch ideas and techniques with various vocal, ambient, and traditional samples as well as philosophies to help develop your own turntablist identity. **This course assumes a basic knowledge of DJing that is equivalent at least to Off Centre's "Level 1: Intro to DJing" class & experience with turntablism techniques equivalent of "Turntablism: Level 01" |
